ALEXANDR NIKOLAEVICH SAMOKHVALOV (1894-1971)
Painter, sculptor, theatre designer. Studied at the Drawing school in Bezhetsk under I.Kostenko, at Ja.Goldblatt's school (1913) in St.Petersburg, at the Academy of Arts (1914-18) in Petrograd, at the Free Workshops/Higher Art and Technical Workshops (1920-23) under D.Kardovsky, V.Savinsky and K.Petrov-Vodkin. Participant of exhibitions from 1917 ("The World of Art", "The Community of Artists", "The Fire-Colour", "The Circle of Artists", etc.). Produced placards, book illustrations (from 1923), painted porcelain, designed monuments. Member of associations "The Circle of Artists" (1926), "October" (1930).
