NIKO PIROSMANI (NIKOLAI ASLANOVICH PIROSMANASHVILI) (1862-1918)
Self-taught painter, lived and worked in Tiflis. Painted tavern (dukhan) walls, street signboards, genre pictures representing townsfolk, merchants, peasants, landscapes, still-lives (the "naive" art). From 1912 artists I.Zdanevich and M.Le-Dantu demonstrated N.Pirosmani's works in Moscow, St.Petersburg and Paris, wrote about him. In 1913 - participant of exhibition "The Target". The largest representative of "primitivism".
