MSTISLAV VALERIANOVICH DOBUZHINSKY (1875-1957)
Painter, graphic artist. Studied at the school of Drawing of the Society for Promotion of Arts in St. Petersburg (1885-1887), at the studios of A.Azbe and Sz. Hollosy in Munich (1899-1900). Member of "The World of Art" (1902-24), "The Union of Russian Artists" (1904-09). Worked at St.Petersburg theatres and at the enterprise of S.P.Dyaghilev in Paris (from 1914). Taught at the Academy of Arts (1918-23), at private and popular art schools. Produced landscapes, portraits, history pictures. Developed traditions of Russian graphic art; master of literary style in book graphic art, possessed a subtle perception of nature.
